ROCHESTER COMMUNITY LIBRARY

PLEASE NOTE: There is now a phone number for the Library - it is 360-858-7086

Updated 06-14-08   Due to the limited number of volunteers the library will be open only during the following hours. There have not been enough volunteers to fully staff the library.  This has resulted in the library often not being open during the times that have been posted. The Library Board of Directors made the decision, at their meeting on June 10, 2008, to reduce the hours of operation to the level where they could feel confident of having a volunteer available for the library to be open.  The Library Board of Directors are fully committed to making sure the library will be open during these new hours and days of operation so you depend upon it being open as stated.

Please remember that your Rochester Community Library is totally dependant upon volunteers!  There is no paid staff.  For the library to remain open it is vitally necessary for the Rochester Community to step up to the plate with individuals who will commit to being a volunteer a couple of hours a week.

Beginning Monday, June 16th, 2008 the new Library hours will be from:
10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Tuesdays & Thursdays

The Rochester Community Library is a cooperative venture between the Timberland Regional Library, The Rochester School District and Local Volunteers.  It is currently housed in the Rochester Community Center and is operated by community volunteers.  Consider becoming a volunteer librarian to help keep this library open in Rochester.  Please view the calendar of available time slots by clicking here.

It contains:

One Children's computer donated by United Way of Thurston County.

The Rochester School District and The Timberland Regional Library (TRL) entered into a formal agreement allowing the placement of the kiosk in Rochester with  local volunteers staffing the Rochester Community Library.  Resources of the TRL are accessible through the kiosk by requesting them for delivery to our local library.  Those materials may be returned to our local library for delivery back to the TRL system.  The many books, videos and other materials which have been donated are for the use of local residents and are not a part of the TRL inventory of materials.

Once the agreement between TRL and the Rochester School District was signed and the kiosk installed the local volunteers began the task of setting up and operating the Rochester Community Library.  This task was headed by Rachel Palmer with the other library volunteers.  The need for some form of oversight to manage this volunteer effort soon became evident.  On March 31, 2006 a public meeting was held for people to learn more about our Rochester Community Library.  A nine  person board was selected during that meeting to establish procedures, formulate plans for future development and solve any on-going operational problems that might arise.  These individuals along with how to contact them are listed here.
