come to the free workshop “Yard Waste Composting
featuring Bins you can Build or Buy” at Dirt Works in west Olympia, from 10
a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dirt Works is located behind Yauger Park in West
Olympia. From Capital Mall Drive, turn onto Alta Drive and go to the end of
the road. Dirt Works is at the end of the Yauger Park parking lot. No
pre-registration is needed.
Thurston County Solid Waste has partnered with the Master Gardener
Foundation of Thurston County to provide subsidized compost bins for
Thurston County residents. The Foundation sells the Earth Machine compost
bin for $35 each (a $86 value) and the Biostack bin for $55 each (a $140
value). Cost includes tax and delivery and the bins are shipped right to
your door. There is a limit of three bins per household.
Green Cone food digesters are also available for $30 each (a $160 value) but
need to be picked up from the Foundation. Rubbermaid Worm Bins are $10 each
and are sold at workshops only. Composting guides and accessories are also
available.
